Hi everyone!

Winter brings dry, dehydrated skin.  Not just from the cold outside, but the heating inside.  The good news is that sheet masks are the ideal way to combat dry, dehydrated and dull winter skin - fast.

Moisturisers often just aren’t enough to retrieve dry skin.  Many will work really well as an occlusive (helping hold in what hydration is already in your skin) but really what you need first is a way to get more moisture into parched skin to start with.

Our favourite sheet masks for dry skin do just that.  These masks are fantastic treatments that include super-hydrators like hyaluronic acid, propolis, aloe, bamboo and Salicornia herbacea.

If your skin is chronically dry I also really recommend our new Goodal Moisture Barrier Mask which includes ceramides to improve your skin’s moisture barrier (and ability to retain moisture) over time.

And if you’ve got oily skin… don’t assume your skin doesn’t need hydration.  Many skin types can be oily but really dehydrated.  When this happens it can actually make acne-prone skin worse.  Check out our acne care masks - which will hydrate your skin without oiliness.

We've got your face covered with our sheet mask library - promise.

Stay warm and bring on spring - and seriously soft, smooth, well-hydrated skin!

“I love myself, I am more than beautiful”

Hi everyone!

We’ve got gorgeous new masks from Korean company PACKage!  I couldn’t wait to get these beauties in our store.

The I Love Myself mask is a specialist makeup booster - helping you get your skin prep just right before makeup.  How?  It’s packed with gentle AHA exfoliants (to remove dead skin cells and improve skin texture) alongside super skin hydrator hyaluronic acid and skin illuminating flower and fruit extracts.  It’ll help you glow from within and provide a luscious canvas for your makeup adventures.

Even better? Written right there on the mask sheet is a reminder: I love myself, I am more than beautiful.

Skin giving you a bit more trouble?  The Don’t Worry Mask lets you know that everything is going to be alright.  This healing mask features Centella asiatica extract and Madecassoside, which have been used in traditional medicines for centuries to promote wound healing, reduce inflammation and to help strengthen and renew the skin.  It also includes aloe juice and extract to hydrate, calm and soothe skin - so you don’t have to worry.

We hope you love them and all our other fantastic treatment masks!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Hi everyone!

OK, so I totally look like C3PO. That's okay, he's pretty damn cool. I tried this gorgeous gold foil mask from CLIV while we were on holidays and I loved it so much!  Yes, it is one of the most instragrammable things I've seen in a while (I usually just immediately delete photos of myself). More importantly though, it made my skin amazing. This is luxury, I tell you.

I only have a limited supply of this mask at the moment, unfortunately. And it is a more 'luxury' priced one at that. So, I have decided that in honour of mid-winter, I'll give them away to my lovely customers as a special mid-winter gift promotion (while stocks last!)

So here's the deal: while supplies last, you can get one *FREE* with any purchase over $65.00!

I'll even give you an extra 2.5% off your order.

If you want to try this stunning mask and/or kill it on Instagram (if you do, please do me a solid and let folks know about our store) just fill your lovely little cart with over $65 worth of our fabulous winter-skin-saving products (check out our awesome cleansers and toners too) and then use the code: GOLDFOIL at checkout to get your free CLIV gold foil mask (valued at $11.00).

As I say on the home page, do get in quick, because once they're gone, they're gone, and in all transparency I do intend on keeping a small stash for myself.  #selfishsheetmasker

Stay warm and well moisturised this winter,
Jess x

And... we're back!

Hi everyone!  I first want to let you all know we're back from holidays, rather exhausted, but back nonetheless!

But most of all I want to thank all of our wonderful customers for their understanding while we've been away!  I'm so grateful to those of you that waited patiently for your orders - I know it isn't easy to demonstrate such patience when you just really want a SHEET MASK ON MY FACE RIGHT NOW OMG I CAN'T WAIT ANY LONGER! :)

I hustled under the strain of monster jet lag yesterday to get all your orders out to you as soon as possible!  So hopefully (Australia Post willing) you'll have them very soon.  And any new orders will get filled with their usual near-immediacy!

BTW - based on our trip, I can confirm that a sheet mask can even do wonders to bring back some humanity after three nights in the wilderness without running water/electricity, hiking and canoing in search of wildlife and covered head to toe in sunscreen and insect repellent!

Thanks again, and good to be back,
Jess

My favourite airline gave me a sheet mask for my flight!

Hi everyone. Just thought I’d let you know that sheet masks are no longer a niche beauty product limited to those of us in the know or already in love with Korean Beauty. In fact, they are now officially such a necessary and beloved staple in our beauty routine that awesome airlines, like my favourite, Japan Airlines, now provide them in their first class amenity kit! The one for ladies, anyway (even though, might I say, sheet masks are just as great and useful for the guys, though a clean shave certainly helps with mask adherence).

Holy smokes, how did I not know about this before!

We recently visited Japan on an awesome research trip. Yes, it was amazing. Yes, I am hoping that the fruits of that trip will mean we should have some awesome new products in our shop some time soon (stay tuned). This trip we burned some Qantas frequent flyer points to again fly home from Tokyo in style – on Japan Airlines first class.

Now, I loved Japan Airlines already. But can you even imagine how excited I was to be presented with a sheet mask as part of their first class amenity kit!? Did they know exactly what to give me to make my flight, or what! Squeeee!

And let me tell you, this wasn’t any old sheet mask. It was a Cle De Peau sheet mask. One that retails for over $250 for a set of six. Woohee – that’s a $40+ sheet mask there people. Now, I am *probably* never going to sell (or buy) a $40 sheet mask, but boy do Japan Airlines know what is possibly the BIGGEST skin saver on a plane.

Dear Japan Airlines, have I mentioned that I love you yet?

And guess what, I haven’t actually used the sheet mask yet. By the time I opened the amenity kit I was more than half a bottle into the champagne and, for reals, there is no way I’m using a $40 sheet mask half-cut. Besides, I had a (quite possibly) equally fabulous sheet mask on hand for the flight already – the oh so lovely April Skin Ginseng Mask. A skin saver, my friends. You truly feel first class (even if you’re in cattle) when you walk off a redeye flight with better skin than when you got on.

When I get up the courage I’m looking forward to trying a super expensive mask (I *should* probably save it for a special occasion), but until then I think the moral of the story is, sheet mask at every opportunity!

Oh, and that Japan Airlines knows what they’re doing.

Bye for now.
Jess

Ooh and FYI, here’s the equally awesome sheet masks of choice for my flight on the way over.

How a panda led me to K-Beauty and sheet masks

28/11/2016

Hi everyone. I thought I’d tell you the story of how I was first introduced to Korean and Asian Beauty.

One of the things I love most in the world is travelling. Anywhere and everywhere. I prioritise travel above most other things, a fact highlighted by my bank balance far too much of the time :)

My love of travel has a tendency to inspire me to learn all sorts of new things. Travel hacking (finding cheap-ass premium-class flights) being one of them. Once I find something I love I burrow into learning everything I can about it.

For me, finding out about Korean (and Asian) Beauty inspired me in a similar way.

My first trip to Japan a couple of years ago was my very first experience of Asian Beauty. In fact, it was on our flight out of Australia, when I was presented with an amenity kit that included a gorgeous package of the luxe (and expensive) Clé de Peau Beauté line, which included serums and essences. Thing was, I didn’t then know what an ‘essence’ or ‘serum’ really was. I was used to the ‘cleanse, tone, moisturise’ routine that had done virtually nothing for my face for a couple of decades. (I certainly didn’t know anything about the wonders of low-pH cleansers like this one from COSRX. So I popped that package in my bag and made a mental note to look into it all when I got home.
Picture
This is Japan Airlines first class. Get your Qantas points on and get on this flight guys – I still reckon it’s one of the best first class experiences in the world!
And then, in Don Quixote (an odd name for a huge Japanese cut-price store), I saw them. Sheet masks. Interesting. Strange. In Hello Kitty packaging. In all honesty, not nearly as cute as the Mediheal Line Friends masks, nor as effective, but at the time a revolution to me.

All I thought was, well, I don’t know what they are, but I need them right now.  In the bag they go, I’ll learn more about them too when I get home.

And then, obviously, I decided I wanted to hold a panda (ha, 'obviously' for possibly only me!) There’s only one place you can do that, you know. In China – just outside of Chengdu to be precise. It’s really surprisingly hard to find out how to get to do this. But TOTALLY worth it.

I may even explain how we did it in a future post. But where was I?

Oh yeah, since I'd ‘travel hacked’ our flights to Chengdu we ended up having to spend a compulsory stopover in Seoul (it's complicated). And as it turns out, when I say we 'had' to stay in Seoul, I mean OMG we were so damn lucky we got to stopover in Seoul! It was amazing. And truly the mecca of Korean Beauty. K-Beauty shops as far as the eye could see. I shopped. And shopped.

From that day forward I was hooked. My skin has never been better, my beauty routine has never been so fun and the products I bought in Seoul didn’t break my bank.

The research started. The online shopping commenced. The distress at continually having to pay huge international shipping costs and wait over six weeks for my coveted products to arrive started to set in. Hmm.

And that was how the Sheet Mask Shop began. I buy direct from Seoul in bulk so you can get the same great products I fell in love with without the international shipping costs and long wait times.

I want you to have your pretties in your hot little hands as soon as possible – come on a K-Beauty journey with me!

Renee (Gothamista) has a new and fab YouTube review of the SU:M37 Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick

27/11/2016

Wonder why at the Sheet Mask Shop we couldn't resist stocking a select range of other Korean Beauty products in addition to our huge range of fabulous sheet masks? The answer is because some K-Beauty products are literally just too good not to share with Australia (and international shipping costs make us sad). A case in point: the SU:M37 Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick. Seriously, it IS a miracle (and, I would add, awesome and convenient for those of us who love to travel).

Watch one of our favourite beauty bloggers, Renee (Gothamista), explain why, and review some other new cleansing sticks. Gotta say we agree with her though – the Miracle Rose Cleansing Stick is almost unbeatable in our view :)

How to use a sheet mask

25/11/2016

The instructions on the pack aren't in English!

Okay let’s do this – the somewhat obligatory blog post to answer the question of how, exactly, do you use a sheet mask? It’s really simple! We provide ‘how to use’ steps for each of the products we stock here online at the Sheet Mask Shop, so if you receive a mask and want clear instructions please come back here and look up the product. (We do this because some of our masks have instructions in Korean rather than English – same goes for the ingredient lists.)

Let me give you a brief overview of how to use a sheet mask.

You basically just remove it from their packet and apply it to your face. Pretty obvious and easy, yeah? Some masks come in one sheet, some in two. You just remove it from the packet right before you’re ready to mask, gently unfold it (some masks are quite delicate) and stick it on. If the mask sheet has a film liner, remove it first.

Then you leave the mask on while you relax and your face drinks in the goodness. Well I suggest you relax but that’s really up to you – you can happily carry on with your evening chores while you mask.

Most manufacturers suggest a time range for you to leave the mask on your face. By all means follow it. But really, you can’t go too far wrong. I often leave mine on for longer than the instructions state because I can’t bear to waste any of the precious serum.

My only instruction to you is:

Do not leave your mask on so long that it dries out completely.

So don’t wear it to bed. This is not really a problem with a hydrogel mask, but if you leave a sheet mask on so long it dries out, it can draw the moisture back out of your face – which you obviously don’t want.

What I can tell you is that the 20-30 mins you spend masking is YOUR TIME! Enjoy it! I find it a wonderful luxury and look forward to it. If you mask in the morning, stick it on while you do your hair or have your coffee. It'll give you a perfect base for your makeup.

And always mask on cleansed skin to ensure you get the best benefit out of it. If you have a complex beauty routine you might want to use your mask after you have used your usual essence or serum to help maximise its impact. If not, I suggest you cleanse, tone, then mask (and then moisturise, if you have really dry skin).

When I sheet mask I rarely need any other essence, serum or moisturiser.

How often should I sheet mask?

It’s entirely up to you. Many Koreans use a sheet mask every day. I do too. My skin feels so much better for it.

You can definitely get great benefits even if you use them only 2-3 times a week (especially with treatment-type masks) – or even just before a night on the town or a big event.

Grab a mask and get your me-time on

Jess x

I think I’ll use this baby tonight.
